Coaching Creates Ripples

After a recent coaching session with one of the University students we are working with, I had a burst of energy.  One of the questions I asked him was if the action steps we were discovering were too intense?  I’ve been around University students long enough to know that they’re sometimes rather busy.  New tasks can often feel overwhelming on top of their grueling study schedules.  But the response I got reminded me how NieuCommunities part in the story God is writing helps generate energy.

The response was an uncomfortable laugh.  He said, “no, it’s not that it’s too intense. It’s the right thing to do and it IS time to man up and do something about what I talk about in the classroom.”  Wait, move out of the theoretical and into the practical?  Come on academia you know you want to ;).  He opened up a pretty important can for his area of influence.  It’s very comfortable sipping on lattes and talking about being the change in South Africa, but eventually the talk has to lead to action or we get fat on steamed milk and sugar.

In the next series of posts, I’m going to lay out some of the things that will be required of this group of student leaders.
